Alumni - What Lessons Can We Learn From Them? | |
Date & Time: | 2 Dec, 2010 (Thur) 2:00pm-3:45pm |
Facilitators: | - Judith Donnelly, Leeds Met University - Julia Tum, Leeds Trinity University College |
Please note that the workshop is arranged in parallel to the Plenary Session 1. |
The Delphi technique was used to elicit views of alumni from two UK universities on their experiences. We collected and analysed data with a view to improving educational outcomes and to make undergraduate life more valuable. This workshop will introduce the Delphi technique as being a useful tool to explore the educational experiences of alumni. The workshop facilitators will discuss the findings of this exercise and compare it to their own work and identify common themes raised. The activity will replicate the research process so that delegates will see how the survey instrument was operated and was used to promote a series of further questions. Delegates will, alternately, role play as teams of four alumni and as teams of researchers. Each stage will last for a maximum of 10 minutes.
The process will clearly demonstrate the principles of the Delphi technique and the workshop will generate an important discussion on what we can learn from alumni and what we can do to improve the educational experience for future students.
